この度はコンゴ民主共和国（DRC）コーヒーに関心を示していただきましたことに深く感謝申し上げます。
DRCコーヒーとの出会いは、昨年末にDRC在京大使よりサンプル豆を頂戴したことが始まりで、「鉱物資源への偏りから脱却し、コーヒーの復興を目指す」というお話があり、そのためには、『物流ルート開拓』と『品質管理』が重要なポイントでした。これまでも輸出はされていましたが、その多くは外資系ルワンダ輸出業者の経由となっていて、ルワンダ産出荷というものでした。そのために税収ロスも発生していました。
そこで実際に輸入に取り組んでみると、なぜルワンダ輸出業者経由になっていたのかよく理解できました。つまり、DRCにも輸出の仕組みはありますが、全く機能していませんでした。農園はルワンダ業者に売ることで即現金化できますが、正規に農園から輸出するためには、煩雑な書類の手続きと配送手配が必要になってしまいます。一方ルワンダ業者においてもDRCでの輸出許可は取得できませんので、必然的にルワンダで輸出することになり、さらにルワンダでDRC産の許可も取得できませんので、ルワンダ産として許可証を取得して輸出することになるわけです。
なお品質につきましては、玉石混淆ながら天然で非常に良好な豆が収穫できる土地であり、ギブ州は紛争による渡航禁止地区ですが、4毛作の可能性がある世界的にも稀で貴重な大地でもあります。またDRCは外国金融資産規制国でもあり、送金にもたいへん高い壁がありましたが、全てクリアすることができ、ギブ州から東京までの輸出と送金に成功しました。
今後は、品質の改善に重点を置いて取り組みを続けたいと考えています。輸入に関しては、両国政府機関の協力も多大なもので、品質改善におきましても連携して取り組みする予定です。昨今はフェアトレードやオーガニックのみならず、ダイレクトトレード（産地直送）の重要性も叫ばれ始めました。また、気候変動による農地減少のリスクも掲げられています。DRCは世界的にもまだ希少なコーヒーですが、幸甚にもギブ州から幾多の障害を乗り越え入荷することができました。今後のDRCと日本を結ぶ希望の豆でもあります。ぜひ一度ご賞味いただければ幸いです。何卒よろしくお願い申し上げます。
Our mission and approach
We would like to thank you for your interest in DRC Coffee. I met this coffee at the end of last year when I received sample beans from the DRC Ambassador in Tokyo. “We aim to revive coffee by breaking away from the bias toward mineral resources.”
To do this, we needed to develop logistics routes and control quality. It has been exported until now, but most of it was shipped from Rwanda through a foreign-affiliated Rwanda exporter. Therefore, tax revenue loss was also incurred.
We worked on import. When I actually worked on it, I understood why it was through Rwanda exporters. DRC also has an export system but It wasn't working. If the farmer sells the coffee to a Rwanda dealer, they can instantly cash it. In order to properly export from the farm, it is necessary to arrange the complicated paperwork and delivery. On the other hand, even Rwanda companies cannot obtain a DRC export license. Inevitably, it has to be done in Rwanda. They cannot obtain a license for DRC production in Rwanda. As a result, it will be exported from Rwanda with the license in hand.
On the other hand, it allows to know from this bean that it is a land where natural and quite good beans can be harvested, although the quality is mixed with cobblestone. Kivu is a ban area on travel due to conflicts, but it is also one of the rare areas in the world with the potential for four seasons of crops .
DRC is also a country that regulates foreign financial assets. There was also a very high wall for remittance. However, I cleared everything and succeeded in the export and remittance from Tokyo to Kivu.From now on, we would like to focus on quality improvement.
There was a great deal of cooperation between the two government agencies in this import. We plan to work together to improve quality in the future.
Recently, not only fair trade and organic but also direct trade has started to be called out. In addition, the risk of agricultural land loss due to climate change is also listed.
DRC coffee is one of the rarest coffees in the world. Fortunately, we overcame many obstacles from Kivu and arrived. It is also a hopeful bean that will connect DRC with Japan in the future.
